DR. SLENKOVICH’S QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS
A leader in the field of plastic surgery in Denver and throughout Colorado, Dr. Slenkovich has authored many plastic surgery articles published in scholarly journals.
He received his medical doctorate from the University of Colorado Health Science Center. He completed his Otolaryngology (study of diseases of the ear and throat) residency at the University of Colorado Hospital and his Plastic Surgery residency at the University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. Dr. Slenkovich is one of the top plastic surgeons in Denver and performs excellent results in both plastic surgery and non-invasive procedures.
WHY IS BOARD CERTIFICATION IMPORTANT?
In Colorado, any licensed physician may perform plastic surgery procedures without being board certified in plastic surgery. Even if he or she possesses other board certifications, it is important to look for certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. If a surgeon is not certified by the ABPS board, they can still call themselves a “plastic surgeon,” but please do not take the risk of having such a doctor perform any cosmetic procedures on you.

In addition to being double board-certified, Dr. Nick is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS).
SURGICAL SKILL AND ETHICAL PRACTICE: ASPS
ASPS membership is the gold standard for plastic surgeons and the most important credential to look for when choosing a plastic surgeon. This credential indicates that the surgeon has completed a combination of at least five years of surgery training with a minimum of two years of plastic surgery training and has passed comprehensive oral and written exams in plastic surgery including a detailed review of the surgeon’s patient care and outcomes.
Membership in ASPS also requires the surgeon to be certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery (or The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada®). This credential ensures that the surgeon operates only in accredited surgical facilities, adheres to the strict ASPS Code of Professional Ethics, regularly fulfills continuing medical education requirements, and completes ongoing education in Patient Safety Standards and innovations in plastic surgery.
ASPS membership is the single most important credential to look for when seeking out a plastic surgeon. No other credential provides as broad of assurance of years of Plastic Surgery residency training, Board Certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, ongoing medical and patient safety education, use of accredited facilities, and the highest level of ethical standards in all aesthetic medicine.
ASAPS: IT MATTERS
ASAPS is the leading organization of board-certified plastic surgeons specializing in cosmetic plastic surgery. The additional “A” stands for “Aesthetic” plastic surgery. If there is any credential that a plastic surgeon can attain that demonstrates a true dedication to aesthetic (cosmetic) surgery, it is ASAPS membership.
ASAPS members must meet additional requirements for continuing education and experience in cosmetic surgery. As the largest organization of American and international aesthetic plastic surgeons, the ASAPS hosts leading scientific meetings dedicated to education and research in cosmetic surgery and procedures. The ASAPS has a special focus on patient safety issues as well as on the effectiveness of new technologies and procedures.

I cannot say enough about Dr Nick and his whole team of amazing healthcare givers. I researched more than a handful of plastic surgeons across the country to find my right fit from preop to postop for my skin removal surgery. After losing 192 pounds, I wanted to make sure that I had the right team for me as well as experts in working with people who have had extreme weight loss.
From the moment of consultation to now, just 6 moths post-op of an extended arm lift and body lift, I have been taken care of and treated as if I were the most important person in the world and they were on this journey with me. I felt heard and listened to and all my concerns and questions were addressed with honesty and professionalism.
The actual surgical work that was done on me was a long 9 hour process, but it was done meticulously and with great care. Whenever I had a question or concern pre or postop, a nurse was always available to answer my questions or ease my mind.

I had a body lift in 2015 after naturally losing 120lbs, had a breast lift in 2016, and came back to the amazing Dr. Nick this year for some “finishing touches” with an extended arm lift and lipo of my abdomen, outer thighs, arms, and mons. I’m 10 days out from my procedure and already couldn’t be happier. My incisions are perfectly placed and look amazing, my already-flat belly now has abdominal definition, and the extensive lipo bruising on my thighs is dissipating quickly- can’t wait to see what my thighs look like in six months! Aside from waking up from surgery with very little pain control (my body doesn’t respond to most pain meds, lucky me), my recovery has been smooth sailing with very little major pain or discomfort. Dr. Nick understands goals, listens, takes exceptional pride in his work, and clearly communicates realistic expectations. The entire nursing and office staff at CPS are second to none as well. I would recommend Dr. Nick to anyone!
I will start by saying that I would recommend Dr. Slenkovich to anyone contemplating which surgeon to have perform their rhinoplasty. I can say this confidently as the surgery he performed was my THIRD rhinoplasty, second revision, and second doctor.
My nose was crushed in a freak incident when I was a toddler. When I turned 17, I finally decided to get my nose repaired as my septum was completely bent, 90 degrees, horizontally, like a stair step. I had difficulty breathing and was getting migraines from that.
I found a ENT surgeon that could perform my surgery. 6 months after that first surgery, I was told that my nose was about 70% of what it could be and if I went in for a second surgery I could get it to closer to 90-95%. So I did. After the second surgery, that physician never saw me post op, I only saw his PA. I had no bridge; if you pushed on the top of my nose, it would concave. My septum was just as crooked, my nose was visibly deformed and my breathing no better. After a few years, and seeing photos from my brothers wedding, I decided to go in for another surgery.
I was extremely picky picking this surgeon. I did not want to undergo the recovery and healing period for another rhinoplasty for nothing. After consulting with other surgeons, I found Dr. Slenkovich. I was drawn to the 3-D model that he uses to plan and predict his surgery and outcomes. I also enjoyed watching his surgery videos, seeing his demeanor in the OR, his thought process while he works, and his expertise in action. Upon my first consultation with him, I was so impressed with his bedside manner, his humbleness, relatability, and how realistic he was with what to expect. That’s what you want with a surgeon, for them to be real. At that point, I didn’t want or expect a nose that looked like it had never been touched or injured or could be on a cover of a magazine. I wanted a nose that I could take a photo and not worry about the angle of my face so my botched nose wasn’t obvious. A nose that I wasn’t always thinking about and could more confidently look people in the eye. Dr. Slenkovich not only assured me he could get me there, but he could show me with his 3-D imaging.
The surgery with Dr. Slenkovich went off without a hitch. He has THE MOST comfortable pre-op/PACU area I have been in. Besides my other surgery’s, I am in nursing and have seen my share of surgery departments and his is exceptional. His nursing staff were top notch. They made me feel comfortable, safe, informed, and looked after. After the surgery, Dr. Slenkovich saw me 3 times in the month following, then again at the 6 month mark and 1 year. I was given complimentary lymphatic massages that helped tremendously with the swelling and pain.
Today, two years later, myself, friends and family are blown away at the results I’ve gotten. My dad calls it the, “best investment he has ever made.” My nose is straight, I have a bridge, and I CAN BREATH!!! I can take pictures without a thought of my nose. When I look in the mirror, I’m not staring at my flawed nose. When I meet new people, go to school, go to work, I am confident and hold my head high.
Dr. Slenkovich changed my life. I am so thankful to have discovered him and to have been able to have him do my nose. As I mentioned above, I will always recommend Dr. Slenkovich.
Dr. Slenkovich took great care of me during my breast reduction/lift. I definitely felt comfortable at his office since the day I walked in to my consultation. I’m extremely thankful for everyone for making me feel at home and for making my surgery as smooth as possible!
I was not referred by a friend. I researched and did my own homework to find Dr. S. I searched for talent that was local and close to home. He and his entire staff have been extremely kind, honest and easy to work with. I read ever review and viewed every video I could find and looked him up to see if he had anything negative available for me to do more research on before I made my decision.
