Dr. Bosshardt’s journey in medicine began with a Bachelor of Science degree, earned Magna Cum Laude, from the University of Miami. He then pursued his medical education at the University of Miami School of Medicine, graduating in 1978. His path to becoming a surgeon started with a general surgery residency at the United States Naval Hospital in Oakland, California. However, his training was temporarily put on hold when, from 1979 to 1980, he served as a medical officer aboard the USS Wabash. During this deployment to the Western Pacific with an aircraft carrier task force, the USS Wabash played a pivotal role in the rescue of Vietnamese boat people and participated in efforts to resolve the Iranian hostage crisis in 1980. For their actions, the crew received several honors, including the Meritorious Unit Commendation.

After completing his residency, Dr. Bosshardt served as a general surgeon at the United States Naval Hospital in Okinawa, Japan, from 1984 to 1987. During this period, he achieved board certification from the American Board of Surgery. Inspired to specialize further, Dr. Bosshardt applied for and was accepted into a prestigious plastic surgery residency under the mentorship of the world-renowned Dr. D. Ralph Millard, Jr., at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. In 1987, he honorably concluded his naval service as a Commander and completed his plastic surgery training in Miami by 1989.

Dr. Bosshardt made history in Lake County in July 1989 as the region’s first full-time plastic surgeon. He earned life-long certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 1991, solidifying his expertise. Since then, his practice has expanded, now including two surgeons working in a state-of-the-art facility that houses Central Florida’s only state-licensed private surgical suite dedicated solely to plastic surgery. He is affiliated with AdventHealth Waterman, University of Florida Leesburg Hospital, and South Lake Hospital.

Throughout his career, Dr. Bosshardt has maintained a deep commitment to humanitarian work, regularly participating in medical missions worldwide. His efforts have brought life-changing reconstructive surgeries to children in the Philippines, Guatemala, Peru, Brazil, Venezuela, the West Bank, and Mexico. While he performs a wide range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgeries, he has developed a particular focus on aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery.

Beyond the operating room, Dr. Bosshardt is a passionate reader and writer. For over 25 years, he shared his medical expertise through a weekly column, “House Calls,” in the Orlando Sentinel. He was also a founding contributor to Healthy Living Magazine in Lake and Sumter County, where he wrote monthly until its closure in 2020. Additionally, he was among the original bloggers for the Orlando Sentinel blog site, contributing to the platform throughout its active years. Dr. Bosshardt’s dedication to both his profession and his community is evident in every facet of his work, making him a respected and cherished figure in his field.
